Statement from Vikrant Reddy in Response to the Supreme Court’s Ruling on Excessive Fines

“Today’s unanimous Supreme Court ruling for Timbs v. Indiana makes clear that excessive fines –including civil asset forfeiture–are an affront to the Constitution. Civil asset forfeiture violates individual civil liberties and creates perverse incentives for law enforcement, turning them into revenue collectors. Ideally, states should end civil asset forfeiture and restore due process protections to their citizens.”
